Isotropic Labs is the practice of Alan Wilcox, an enterprise and integration architect with more than 30 years untangling systems that grew faster than anyone planned for. My backyard garden has the same problem, just with weeds instead of spreadsheets and SharePoint Lists.

Who is behind the work

I've spent my career at the point where technology meets the business: aligning IT and information systems to strategy, reducing and preventing technical debt, and making systems perform. That work has ranged from directing global Dynamics 365 and Azure programs across 70+ countries and 300+ locations, to building modern data platforms on Microsoft Fabric, to designing integrations that reach from the plant floor and warehouse all the way to enterprise finance.

Most recently, as a principal solution architect at a Microsoft Gold Partner, I built and led a structured enterprise architecture program, ran discovery with owners and C-suite executives, and delivered the roadmaps and integration patterns that turn strategy into working systems. Isotropic Labs brings that same senior, architecture-first approach to growing organizations that need the leadership without the overhead of a full-time executive.

How I work

I started as a mechanical engineer, not a programmer, and it still shows in how I approach systems: understand the structure before you touch anything, and design so the load is carried where it's supposed to be. I start by figuring out how your organization actually operates, then build a foundation that can hold what comes next. Applications come after that, not before. The goal is an organization that moves faster as things get more complex, not slower.
